Overview

Important Notes Before Travelling

  • • Kyoto is a large city and most of the major sights are spread out across the city. I recommend staying close to the main train station as it makes getting around much easier.

  • • I used a JR Pass to travel to Kyoto and to take day trips to Hiroshima and Miyajima. The JR Pass also covers some local trains in Kyoto, but not all of them. I also used an ICOCA IC Card for other trains, subways, and buses in Kyoto.

  • • I rented an electric bike for one day to explore the temples and shrines on the eastern side of Kyoto. It was a fun and flexible way to see a lot in a day. I rented it from a store near Kyoto Station.

  • • I booked some tours and admissions in advance through Klook app. It saved me time and money, and it was very convenient.
